Remembering Astrid

Astrid Kirchherr, the innovative German photographer who captured iconic photos of The Beatles from their early Hamburg days, has died aged 81.
Olivia Harrison remembers Astrid:
Dear Astrid,
Just yesterday I held your Christmas card….stood for some moments with it in my hand and communed with you. Addressed in gold ink, always a gold star floating on a red envelope, I wondered how you were then sent you imaginary flowers.
Astrid is and was the sweetest woman, so thoughtful and kind and talented, with an eye to capture a soul. Our family loved her and none more than George. I am truly saddened but honoured to have known her.
